The Creator’s Circle is a membership program created for artists, photographers, and creatives who want to be part of the growing Art Gallery of Welland community and the broader Niagara Region art scene. The program supports local artists in Welland and across Niagara by showcasing their work, building connections, and creating opportunities for exhibitions and public engagement.
Jane Marshall is a Canadian painter and glassworker, based in the Niagara Region. She was born in Welland, Ontario, and raised in the family farm in Willoughby Township.
After graduating from Westland Secondary School in Niagara Falls, she earned degrees in Fine Art and Education at the University of Toronto. Jane also studied at OCAD and the Toronto School of Art. She enjoyed a career teaching visual arts at the secondary level with the Peel District School Board, with additional teaching assignments in France, Italy, Greece and China.
Initially interested in textile arts, she later expanded her skills to include painting, photography, glass working, graphic design, preparing print publications, and producing television and video projects. Jane became adept early in the use of computers to produce artwork and continues to utilize digital media and photography in her working practice.
After returning to the Niagara Region a few years ago, Jane focused on painting, with an interest in revealing the properties of transparency, translucence and reflection in acrylics. Rather than strict representation, her art shows a dynamic expressionistic rendition in colour, form and contrast. Based on travel as well as the beauty of the Niagara area, her work expresses the interaction between human endeavour and the natural world, and the constant friction between natural beauty and the constructed environment.
Most recently, her work includes multimedia elements such as photographs and found objects, as she develops a series of multi dimensional artworks exploring gender issues, immigration, war and technology as experienced by her family. Jane’s work is owned by many private individuals as well as institutions in Canada and the USA. Displays consist of several solo and shared exhibitions as well as many group shows.
